Summer 2019: Eat Around Town

The culinary scene in Chicago is ever-changing and always expanding, here the newest hotspots by neighborhood.

Virtue 1462 East 53rd Street
Virtue descended on the Chicago neighborhood of Hyde Park in the fall of 2018. The Southern American restaurant stays true to its name, by not only offering classic southern bites but southern charm as well. Executive Chef Erick Williams already had the pleasure of serving Former President Barack Obama when Virtue first opened its doors. Expect southern favorites such as fried green tomatoes, gumbo, and blackened catfish.

Twain 2445 North Milwaukee Avenue
Twain is a Midwestern American restaurant located in the Logan Square neighborhood. The name itself is a nod to one of America’s most famous authors, Mark Twain. The décor of the restaurant is farmhouse-chic and offers a more causal vibe, although Executive Chef Tim Graham (former Chef at Tru)
is no stranger to the fine dining world. On the menu expect comfort meat- and veggie-based dishes with a contemporary spin.

The Darling 905 West Randolph Street
The Darling is a new restaurant/bar/speakeasy all in one. Located in the West Loop neighborhood, this is clearly one of the hottest spots on the scene right now. You enter through the storefront flower shop. Once inside head upstairs to the enchanted ballroom serving larger plate food or head downstairs to the library for an intimate cocktail and dining experience.

Onward 6580 North Sheridan Road
Head to the North Side of Chicago and you’ll end up at Onward. Onward’s opening in Rogers Park was highly anticipated. The owner, Michael Olszerwski, was the former owner of the three-Michelin-starred restaurant, Grace. The restaurant offers American fine dining in a unique but casual setting.

Walton Street Kitchen + Bar 912 North State Street

Walton Street Kitchen + Bar is your go-to spot for brunch, lunch, and dinner in the Gold Coast neighborhood. There’s an energetic vibe right when you enter. The menu is affordable and approachable. Downstairs houses a sophisticated cocktail lounge that’s perfect after hours of shopping along Michigan Avenue.
