Last Minute Date Nights

Many Chicagoans operate at full throttle, cramming in a date night here and there with little time to actually plan an experience much less make reservations weeks in advance. Here are a few places where you don’t have to plan ahead- procrastinators welcome.

Windy City Playhouse

This Chicago gem has produced a successful slew of immersive theater performances where audience members don’t merely sit back and observe. You become a part of the production, sipping themed cocktails (hello, Jello shots!) and perching on scenery (your first time on a jail cell bench…hopefully). Viewings can be pricey to this limited-seating venue- tickets start at $65 and go up to $100+ during prime times. Take advantage of their rush policy for tickets- sign up with your email for their rush list and they will notify you the day of regarding unsold tickets, which are half off. PS- bottles of wine are $10 off on Wednesdays.

Topolobampo

If you are a Rick Bayless fan but not a fan of their long reservation list and pricey meals, I will share a secret: lunch. Restaurants make money when tables turn, and Topolo found a way to get you in and out for less but still serve some of their specialties. For $25, you receive a starter, main and dessert with the promise of getting you in and out in 60 minutes. The mains aren’t wimpy, either- choices like Carne Asada with a 29-ingredient sauce grace the menu. Their normal 4-course lunch menu is $49, so at almost half the price you get a major taste of Topolobampo without breaking the bank.

Staycation

If the piles of laundry and a sink-full of dishes are driving you up the wall, take a last minute break with a little staycation in your city. The app Hotel Tonight has a “Daily Drop” feature that allows you to swipe once a day for a deal up to 30% off their already low price. The catch? Once you swipe, the deal is only valid for 15 minutes. The app uses your past preferences and history to nab you an ideal deal in your price range and with preferred amenities.
